Progress: Exterior Painting, Take 2

Like many other exterior projects before this one, it was a challenge trying to beat the weather; this time I had to throw in the towel and admit defeat. When I moved into the house, I found that the decorative running trim lowered the porch roof height enough that I would hit my head off of it when passing under. Before painting, I removed this from the beam with a demolition bar. Along the sides of the porch it was one continuous piece of fascia that formed the running trim. Because of this, I used a router with a 3/4″ flush cut bit to trim the decorative edge off of the fascia. The before photos are in the gallery below, the result can be seen to the right.

Following the woodworking and other prep, I was able to paint the left half of the porch and rear of the house. The final product is going to be the same color as the shutters, doors, garage door, and porch roof. As seen in the photo to the left, I painted the beams and joists, but I did not finish painting the joists and plywood. This step was finished later on and took an eternity and a half.

I hope to finish the last remaining painting in spring, but for now, this project is frozen!
